New Homestead, Chilmark MA

Community Greenhouse of Martha’s Vineyard, Oak Bluffs MA

This garden became a work in progress all summer, as I moved many of my perennials from Punkhorn Farm into this community space to show examples of permaculture using regenerative gardening with edible and medicinal plants. It was a redesign, but I have now ended that account and will be moving the garden to a new location where I will be building a food forest. Since it was a redesign, the original layout was not ideal. My goal was to build soil, sheet mulch extensively, educate volunteers and community, and expand on what existed previously. The garden space is greatly improved with the added diversity, mulch, cover cropping, and use of other regenerative methods. I also applied regenerative methods inside the greenhouse by under cropping through cash crops, and mulching with existing plants and materials. I applied permaculutre methods when dealing with pests, and used no till when rotating crops.

Punkhorn Farm, Brewster MA

Punkhorn Farm is a garden I designed, built, and managed for 4 years on my family’s property on Cape Cod. It started with building the soil and creating a small permaculture food forest, and grew into a 3/4 acre permaculture agricultural farm that catered to farmers markets and restaurants. This was one of my favorite and beloved projects. Upon moving to Martha’s Vineyard, the agriculture fields were then turned into orchard space and the food forest remains self sustaining.

Blackbird Farm, Philo CA

A 6 month project from the ground up building a ½ acre educational/food production garden space for a 250 acre farm that teaches urban youth homesteading skills. Completed my contract December 2013. I was hired as a consultant to design, facilitate and implement the project. My objectives beyond implementation were teaching and guiding staff on maintenance and permaculture principles as I passed the project over after contract was completed.

Taylor Maid Farm, Occidental CA

108 acre farm in Northern California, designed to host retreats, events and supply local farmer’s market and restaurants with veggies. I started as a farm hand and transitioned to the farm manager, where I managed staff and volunteers. I started all the plants in our greenhouse, and maintained the gardens.

Camp Mokuleia, Halewia HI

Camp Mokuleia sits on the North Shore of Oahu, with the ocean as the front yard and gorgeous mountains climbing behind. In 2011 ten acres had been donated to the Camp to build a sustainable farm and community-building arena. I visited the Camp once a year from 2011 to 2017 to assess progress and define/redefine goals, projects, and design. I worked with a different set of interns each year and one year spent a day with a group from the Island’s Nature Conservancy team.
